Kanje collects nothing. There is no account to create, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking, and no third-party code that sends data anywhere. The developer never receives anything you write or do in the app.
What the app keeps, and where
- Your progress — which words you have written, translated and reviewed, your review schedule, and the kanji you have taken on. This is stored in your private iCloud database, through Apple’s CloudKit, so that it follows you to your other iPads. Only your Apple Account can read it; the developer cannot.
- Your handwriting — the ink you write on the squares and sentence pages. This stays on the iPad it was written on.
- Your settings — theme, square size and the rest. These stay on the iPad too.
Network
The app makes no network requests of its own. iCloud sync is carried out by iPadOS. The links on the app’s data sources screen open in your browser.
Deleting your data
Settings › Reset everything erases your progress, reviews and kanji set on every iPad signed in to your iCloud, and your handwriting and settings on the iPad where you press it. Deleting the app removes what is stored on that iPad; what is in iCloud can also be removed from the iPad’s Settings, under your name › iCloud.

The site sets no cookies and runs no tracking. If you write to us through the support form, the name, email address and message you type are held by Netlify, which hosts this site, and passed on to us so that we can reply. They are kept only as long as the conversation needs, and used for nothing else.
